How to convert ASS to SRT

  1. Paste your ASS subtitles into the ASS source box, or choose a .ass file (UTF-8, up to 5 MiB) — conversion runs automatically.
  2. Edit the source any time to re-convert, or press Convert to retry on demand.
  3. Review the SRT result — cues are renumbered sequentially, and discarded styling is listed as warnings.
  4. Download the .srt file, or copy the text straight out of the result box.

What changes between ASS and SRT

ASS (Advanced SubStation Alpha, .ass — the format used by Aegisub and many media players) stores styles in a [V4+ Styles] table and can embed override blocks like {\pos(100,200)} directly in Dialogue lines, plus karaoke timing and positioning. SRT is much simpler: sequentially numbered cues, comma-decimal timestamps and plain caption text. This converter keeps each Dialogue line's timing and visible caption text, renumbers the cues, and drops ASS-only features — styles, override blocks and comments — with each removal reported as a warning.

Note: This converter exports plain caption text. ASS-only features — style definitions, inline override blocks ({\...}), positioning, karaoke timing and comments — are discarded, and each removal is reported as a warning. Timings and caption text are kept.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is lost when converting ASS to SRT?

Everything SRT cannot express: [V4+ Styles] definitions, inline override blocks ({\...}) for positioning, colors, fonts and karaoke timing, plus Comment lines. Timings and the visible caption text of each Dialogue line are preserved, and removals are listed as warnings. Two things are refused outright instead of being mis-converted: drawing-mode cues ({\p1..} turns the text into vector drawing commands, not captions) and a Script Info Timer other than 100% (it would rescale every time).

Can I convert files from Aegisub or legacy SubStation Alpha?

Yes — the converter reads ASS subtitles saved by Aegisub or SubStation Alpha (.ass). Multi-line caption text and unicode characters are kept.

Are my subtitles uploaded anywhere?

No. Parsing and conversion run entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing is sent to a server, stored, or logged.

What files can I load?

A UTF-8 text file up to 5 MiB. You can also paste subtitle text directly into the source box instead of choosing a file.
