How to convert SRT to ASS
- Paste your SRT subtitles into the SRT source box, or choose a .srt file (UTF-8, up to 5 MiB) — conversion runs automatically.
- Edit the source any time to re-convert, or press Convert to retry on demand.
- Review the ASS result — cues become Dialogue lines under a single default style, and any warnings appear with the output.
- Download the .ass file, or copy the text straight out of the result box.
What changes between SRT and ASS
SRT (SubRip) numbers every cue and writes timestamps with a comma, like 00:00:01,500. ASS — Advanced SubStation Alpha, saved as .ass — is a sectioned format: [Script Info] metadata, a [V4+ Styles] table, and [Events] Dialogue lines whose timestamps use centiseconds (0:00:01.50). ASS also supports rich styling, positioning and karaoke effects. This converter writes a valid ASS file with one default style: cue timings are rounded to the nearest centisecond (ties round up), the caption text carries over, and any SRT styling tags (such as <i> or <font>) are stripped, each removal reported as a warning. It does not invent karaoke effects or complex styling.
Note: The ASS output uses a single default style — times are rounded to the nearest 10ms (ties round up), with a warning whenever a time changes, and a cue too short to keep a positive interval after rounding is refused with an error. Caption text carries over; this converter does not generate advanced ASS styling, positioning or karaoke effects. SRT styling tags are stripped and reported as warnings.
Frequently asked questions
What does the ASS output contain?
A valid ASS file with a [Script Info] header, one default entry in [V4+ Styles], and one Dialogue line per cue in [Events]. Timings are rounded to ASS centisecond form (ties round up, with a warning when a time changes) and the caption text is kept; a cue that would collapse to zero length after rounding is refused with an error.
Do SRT styling tags survive in the ASS file?
No. Tags such as <i>, <b>, <u> and <font> are stripped so the Dialogue text stays plain, and each removal is listed as a warning. Advanced ASS styling is not generated — open the result in an editor such as Aegisub if you want to style it further.
Are my subtitles uploaded anywhere?
No. Parsing and conversion run entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing is sent to a server, stored, or logged.
What files can I load?
A UTF-8 text file up to 5 MiB. You can also paste subtitle text directly into the source box instead of choosing a file.
